Seven out of ten swimsuits sold in the world reportedly originate from China. It’s thanks to the World Trade Organization’s 2004 lift on China-produced textile quotas and initiatives like the Hosa Cup China Swimwear Design Contest. The contest introduced the industry to budding outfit makers, including the 2011 contest winner, Liu Shanshan.
Like any other runway parade, there were a few hiccups, and this woman ended up sitting on the floor during her walk. Still, designs on the showcase stole the show and the second prize winner, Zhang Yadong, equally stunned the audience with his marine-themed collection. He Jiali’s men’s full-body swimwear line also left a lasting impression.
