When women in Vermont want to wear fake teeth, their spouses are legally required to sign off on it. Hence, let your husband know you’ve had your eye on your new veneers if you possess them. The Gilman v. Andrus case, in which a man was obliged to compensate for “plates of crystal teeth” created for his wife in 1856, gave rise to this law.
As a result of the trial, Vermont lawmakers passed an ordinary law mandating women seeking to wear prostheses to get written consent from their spouses. However, no decision has been made on the issue and the statute itself is no longer in effect in 2022.
