Shadow Lawn – 90,000 sq ft

This fantastic property was finalized in 1929 for Woolworths President Hubert Templeton Parson and his spouse, Maysie Gasque. Shadow Lawn, built in 1903, was destroyed by fire in 1927. Parson replaced it with a 90,000-square-foot, 130-room estate that is the second biggest in the United States in 2022 next to Delaware’s Winterthur.

Parsons spent $10.5 million on the construction, and it was an instant financial loss when the stock market crashed. Only ten years later, it was auctioned for $100. After purchasing it in 1956, Monmouth University renamed it “Wilson Hall” in memory of President Woodrow Wilson, and it has served as the campus’ focal point ever since.
