Elaine Stritch – The ladies who lunch

Elaine Stritch, the brassy, sharp-tonged, Broadway American actress, and singer who became a living symbol of show business stability and perhaps the best exponent of Stephen Sondheim’s ambivalent music in old age. She is arguably best known for her one-woman show “Elaine Stritch: At Liberty.” Stritch won the 2002 Tony award for the Best Special Theatrical Event.
Her Broadway debut was in the 1946 comedy “Loco.” Decades ago, she made her way to the top and established her signature song “Zip” in the 1952’s revival of “Paul Joy.” She has been awarded three primetime Emmys. Stritch remained staunchly active in show business till her demise on July 17, 2014.
