As Johnson worked on “Miami Vice,” he had another career as a powerboat racer. He even won the APBA World Cup in 1988 in the super boat class. In addition to acting in “Miami Vice,” he also directed a few of its episodes. After the show’s cancelation in 1989, he again found TV fame in 1996 as the lead character in “Nash Bridges.”
