Men often refrain from physical affection toward friends of the same gender. They have been conditioned by society to think that intimacy between friends is not masculine, so the most they’d get close to each other is fist bumps and head nods.

It’s nice to see a group of men hug each other, even if it happens when they are heavily intoxicated. A study by the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness in 2017 concluded that men were more isolated than women. One-third of men have said they have no close friends. Close male friendships where platonic touch is acceptable would help alleviate mental health issues in many men.
