Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson first met in 1964, and they wrote and produced songs for some great artists in America. Their clientele list included the likes of Ray Charles and Chaka Khan, among numerous others. Their breakthrough first came with the song “Let’s Go Get Stoned.” The duo was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002.
These lovebirds later got married in the ’70s and proved to each other’s better half in the best sense possible. They were perfect for each other professionally and personally, having raised two daughters together. All was going great until the couple broke apart when Ashford passed away in 2011.
