Mike Mussina was selected by the Baltimore Orioles after he was done being a high schooler. However, he turned down their offer and instead enrolled at Stanford. His athletic achievements earned him recognition as an All-American and helped him finish his studies in economics. He spent the following two years starring for the Rochester Red Wings of the Minor Leagues.
Mussina debuted with the Orioles in 1991 and spent the whole 1992 season with them. There, he was chosen for the All-Star team five times. After joining the Yankees in 2001, he maintained his stellar performance. While on the squad, he won three Gold Gloves.
