When Carlos Delgado was very young, he took up Little League Baseball. On October 1, 1993, he made his Major League Baseball start with the Toronto Blue Jays. He also appeared for the Florida Marlins and the New York Mets. Delgado was a first baseman who swung left and threw right, with a .280 batting average, 2,038 hits, 473 home runs, and 1,512 RBIs in his career.

Among his many accolades are his three Silver Slugger Awards, the American League Hank Aaron Award in 2000, and the National League Roberto Clemente Award in 2006. He was also selected to the All-Star team in 2000 and 2003.
