Mao Geping founded his self-titled brand in 2000, but it wouldn’t be until 2016 that the brand went viral. Upzhu, slang for a content creator on the Bilibili platform, shared Mao’s makeup tutorials from two decades back, making him an overnight internet sensation. Before then, he was known mainly by his peers in the industry.
Most notably, he established the Mao Geping Image Design Art School. In 2013, the school put together a showcase in Beijing, and this woman rocking an MGPIN outfit lost her balance. Mao also has live-stream beauty classes and regularly displays his edgy creations on the runway.
