If You Have A Sofa On Your Doorstep In Colorado, You’re Breaking The Law

Due to the University of Colorado’s couch-burning transgressions, a ban on porches and sofas was enacted in Boulder. This ban is in effect throughout 2022, however, the jury is still out on whether or not it has stopped any couch bonfires from happening. Similar legislation has been in place since 1996 in Boulder, where over 100 sofas have been set on fire.

Boulder authorities enacted an ordinance in 1974 prohibiting the storage of soft furnishings outdoors after many minor but damaging disturbances at the Colorado institution. In these incidents, drunken collegians routinely stole and burnt sofas off porches in order to use, or simply sell them.
