On the dividing line between Lenox and Stockbridge in Massachusetts is where you’ll find the Vanderbilt estate known as Elm Court. It was constructed in the Berkshires to serve as the vacation house of William Douglas Sloane and Emily Thorn Vanderbilt, members of the rich Vanderbilt family. The building was constructed by Peabody and Stearns, one of the most renowned architectural firms in Eastern America.
With 106 rooms, this house holds the title of being the United States’ biggest American Shingle Style home. In addition to their notoriety for hosting extravagant parties, the Vanderbilt family is credited for constructing some of the most opulent mansions in the United States.
