Viola Davis is one of the most celebrated Black actresses in film history. And it’s even more incredible to witness all her achievements when you realize how far she’s come. For some much-needed context, Davis began acting on stage in the late ’80s.

However, she landed her first professional stage role in the 1992 production of “As You Like It.” But since her performance in “Fences” won her a Tony Award in 2010, she hasn’t been able to keep the accolades away. Today, she’s achieved the triple crown of acting by winning the Primetime Emmy and Academy Award. And in 2017, she got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
