Eddie Asner made impressive contributions to the movie industry as both an actor and the former president of the Screen Actors Guild. He got his start back in the ’50s appearing in stage plays on and off-broadway and while serving in the U.S. military.
Before his service, he dropped out of school and worked as a taxi driver for General Motors. But after returning, he began acting full-time. He is mostly remembered for his TV appearances in the ’70s and early ’80s on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Lou Grant.” These roles earned him seven Primetime Emmy Awards, making him the most honored male actor in the Awards’ history.
