The general concept of horse racing had its history in Ancient Rome, a place and time where many rules about the sport and traditions were given birth. The first countries that received its influence were Ancient Greece, Egypt, Babylon, and Syria.
While the Ancient Greeks enjoyed their chariot races, it was Henry VIII and Charles I who initiated the idea of horse breeding. James I found Newmarket’s potential, Charles II overturned a ban on the sport, and Queen Anne thought of Ascot Health for a racecourse. During the latter’s reign between 1702 and 1714, bets on races emerged. Since then, professional horse racing sports have grown in popularity.
