The cowboy hat is a reinforced helmet, so hopefully, he survived unscathed. Most riders learn to ride on previously broken horses. Horses need to be instructed by a sensitive and understanding trainer to transport a passenger. This helps the horse learn to appreciate being ridden rather than despise it.
