A courtyard is formed by a screen wall connecting the spreading wings. Anderson House is a 1905 Beaux Arts house that served as the winter residence of American ambassador Larz Anderson and his spouse Isabel.

The estate was designed by the Boston company of Arthur Little Herbert Browne, and it was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1996. The Andersons’ Washington, D.C. mansion was designed with social gatherings in mind. They held diplomatic and inauguration parties between 1905 and 1937.
